FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why Heights Music Studio?
We understand there are so many different music studios and it can be tricky to decipher which is the right one for you. This is where HMS enters the scene! At our studio, we are passionate about tailoring each lesson to the individual needs of every student. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, as we appreciate and value the unique differences which make us all so interesting. HMS is dedicated to providing lessons backed by reasoning, anatomically sound, evidence-based technique and performance practice which offers students a foundation from which they are able to then launch into any genre of music in a healthy, successful and sustainable manner. We believe in problem solving, we support the idea that everyone has a musical voice which deserves to be nurtured and heard, and we champion thinking, reasoning, and artistically creative musicians.

Secondly, you are more than welcome to visit our Hudson Heights Studio. Finally, by special request, we offer lessons at PianoPiano Rehearsal Studios, 37 W. 65th St.

Is there a silbling discount?
Yes there is! For families with more than one student receiving lessons from HMS, we apply a 10% discount. Feel free to reach out for more information.
Am I able to take lessons for voice & piano?
Absolutely! Some of our students love to sing and play the piano and they cannot decide. That’s okay - we can offer both! Often students prefer to split the lesson into 30 minute increments, but there is always flexibility. It is a wonderful skill to be able to sing and play at the same time and we would be delighted to help you develop, or build upon, this invaluable skillset.
My child is pre-reading level, can they learn the piano?
The short answer is yes! We are always amazed by our young students and just how much is possible before reading and writing is fully mastered. Studies have actually shown, that the younger the student is, the more beneficial learning an instrument can be, for children are highly adaptive and able to create new pathways in their brains so quickly. Please read here for further information.
Am I too old to resume or begin my music journey?
Never! In fact, did you know that studies have shown that learning an instrument and engaging in musical activities can improve brain function and increase neural connections, leading to improved memory focus and overall cognitive function.
Can I change my lesson time?
Please let us know 24 hours in advance if you would like to change your lesson time and we will always try our best to accommodate your needs.
What if I am running late to my lesson?
There is a 5 minute grace period factored into the start of each lesson. After this point, the clock begins. Emergency situations exempt, of course.
What is the cancellation policy?
We require 24 hours advance notice for a missed lesson. If we are notified on the day-of the lesson, 50% of the lesson fee will be required. If students are simply a ‘no show,’ then the full lesson fee is required. Of course, we understand life happens and there can be emergencies and we never want to be unreasonable, but we do have a business to run and hope you are able to work with us on this.
