ELISABETH HARRIS
About
Born and raised in New Zealand, award winning mezzo-soprano and musician, Elisabeth Harris is fearless performer, and a passionate champion of musical cognizance, expression, and inclusivity.
A rare being who is at home on the concert stage, and in the teaching studio, Elisabeth applies her professional experience of over 20 years on the opera, concert and musical theatre scene, to her studio as she seeks to build a robust musical skill-set in all of her students that will last a lifetime.
At the heart of Elisabeth’s methodology is the desire for holistic music-making. This concept, in which the whole person is nourished, supported and mobilized, enables students to produce a unique, agile and musically robust sound. In doing so, Elisabeth tailors each lesson to the individual needs of every student, imparting crucial technical tools and drawing out each students’ intrinsic musicality in an environment that is always stimulating, and safe.
In addition to running a private music studio, Elisabeth was previously on staff as a voice and piano teacher for the Encore School of Music and enjoyed a two year tenure as the Conductor and Musical Director of the Christchurch Home-Schoolers’ Choir for the Primary Schools’ Music Festival in New Zealand.
Currently, Elisabeth is an active member at the New York Singing Teachers’ Association and is always seeking opportunities to grow her own musical knowledge and skills, thus enabling her to offer lessons that meet current vocal and musical standards.
